Molly is a Year 10 student at a local Gippsland high school. She participated in work experience at Myli – My Community Library in August 2024 and kindly wrote an update for the Myli News blog about her time with us.
“My name is Molly and I got the wonderful opportunity to do work experience at Myli Library! In the past week, I got the chance to work at the Warragul and Drouin Library as well as the Myli Support Centre in Warragul!
The staff were all so kind and welcoming and I was so happy to be a part of such a lovely team of people and have the chance to help the community. At the branches I got to learn about how the bookshelves were organized, not just by alphabetical order of the author’s last name you would generally expect but also numbers labelled on the nonfiction books.
It was incredibly satisfying searching for books in the library and finding them that were on hold that would be sent to other libraries or put on the holds shelf. It was like an easter egg hunt just with books! I also got to put back books to their bookshelves that had been returned and help put out craft stuff for all the adorable little kids who came in for storytelling with their families during the day!
At the Myli Support Centre, I got to hear about how the Marketing department do things like updating the Myli website and advertising events happening in Myli on social media, and the Collections department organize all the new books that come in for the libraries.
After everything that I have learned and experienced at Myli in work experience it seems like such a wonderful job, helping people in the community and then organising things – great for someone who loves to organise things and help others! The work experience with Myli has been so much fun and I will miss it dearly.”
