NAIDOC Week 2024

NAIDOC Week 2024

NAIDOC Week celebrations are held across Australia each July to celebrate the history, culture and achievements of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples. NAIDOC is celebrated not only in Indigenous communities, but by Australians from all walks of life. The week is a great opportunity to participate in a range of activities and to support your local Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander community.

2024 Theme –

Keep the fire burning! Blak, Loud and Proud.

The theme honours the enduring strength and vitality of First Nations culture – with fire a symbol of connection to Country, to each other, and to the rich tapestry of traditions that define Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples.

How can you support and celebrate NAIDOC Week?

Explore Educational Resources: Visit NAIDOC.org.au to access a variety of resources, including educational materials, social media tiles, and news articles. These resources are perfect for learning more about First Nations’ stories, voices, and histories.

Download the Official 2024 Poster: Get your own copy of the official 2024 NAIDOC Week poster, ‘Urapun Muy‘, designed by Deb Belyea. Display it proudly to show your support and raise awareness about NAIDOC Week in your community.

Engage Young Children with First Nations Stories: Encourage young children to learn more about First Nations cultures and histories by visiting StoryBox Library. It’s a fantastic platform for accessing a wide range of stories that celebrate and educate about Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples.

Visit Your Local Library: Head to your local library branch to browse our special displays of NAIDOC Week titles. If you prefer to enjoy books from the comfort of your home, you can download e-books and e-audiobooks by Indigenous authors from BorrowBox.

Watch Films: Our digital movie streaming service, Kanopy, offers a range of films that highlight Indigenous stories and voices. Some recommended titles include: ‘Why Me?’, ‘In My Blood It Runs’, ‘The Redfern Story’ and ‘Ten Canoes’.

Create displays in your workplace or home: Our team have created displays in branches using many of the free NAIDOC Week resources, including free bunting from Songlines Art Culture Education.
