The Great Book Swap

The Great Book Swap

Swap your pre-loved books for some new-to-you reads while supporting a wonderful cause in the Myli Libraries – Leongatha Great Book Swap!

We are so excited to be holding a Great Book Swap as part of our NAIDOC Week 2022 celebrations in support of The Indigenous Literacy Foundation. Our Great Book Swap will be held at Leongatha Library on Thursday July 7 between 11.30am and 2pm, following our First Nations extended StoryTime event at 10.30am.

At Myli, we’re passionate about literacy, literature and lifelong learning. We believe every child, everywhere deserves to be supported and encouraged to develop a love of books and reading, and to see themselves and their culture reflected in those stories.

Bring along a book or two (or ten!), browse our Great Book Swap selection, swap your pre-loved books for some new-to-you reads and make a gold coin donation for each swap you make, in support of the Indigenous Literacy Foundation [ILF].

If you are unable to make it on the day but would like to make a donation towards our ILF fundraising goal, you can do so directly through our fundraising page: Myli Libraries Great Book Swap.

About the Great Book Swap

The Great Book Swap is a fantastic way to celebrate reading locally, learn more about Indigenous languages and culture, and raise funds for a great cause. This year the ILF are aiming raise $150,000 to gift 15,000 new books to remote Communities.

About The Indigenous Literacy Foundation (ILF)

The Indigenous Literacy Foundation was founded in 2004 by Suzy Wilson, owner of Riverbend Books in Brisbane, with the aim of raising funds to improve literacy outcomes in remote Australia. ILF has worked with over 400 remote communities, gifted 636,000 books, supplied 83 playgroups with early literacy Book Buzz resources, and published 143 books reflecting 26 Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander languages.

Through ILF’s three core programs, their dedicated ambassadors, volunteers and staff work together to gift thousands of new culturally relevant books annually, support Communities to create books, many in First Languages, and organise major advocacy and fundraising events, including Indigenous Literacy Day.

In the lead up to our Great Book Swap, we encourage you to take a look at our online catalogue and eResources and discover some of the many wonderful First Nations authors and illustrators featured in our collections.
